The Frank Zappa camp shared a preview from the forthcoming Zappa/Erie box set, due out through Zappa Records/UMe on June 3. Fresh from the vault is a previously unheard version of “Village Of The Sun.”
The Zappa Trust detailed Zappa/Erie in April. The box set boasts over seven hours of unreleased material captured in or around Erie, Pennsylvania between 1974 and ‘76 featuring three different lineups.

The “Village Of The Sun” iteration comes from the Maestro’s November 12, 1974 concert at Erie’s Gannon Auditorium. The lineup consisted of trombonist Bruce Fowler, drummer Chester Thompson, keyboardist George Duke, bassist Tom Fowler, saxophonist Napoleon Murphy Brock and percussionist Ruth Underwood.
