Foo Fighters Share Haunting 10-Minute Single ‘The Teacher’

Foo Fighters released a new single, “The Teacher.” The track is set for the rockers’ imminent album, But Here We Are, which arrives Friday, June 2.

But Here We Are is a record that sees frontman Dave Grohl and the band processing grief. Longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins died tragically on March 25, 2022 and But Here We Are songs like “Under You” ses FF remembering their bandmate. Sadly, Dave’s mother, Virginia Grohl, passed away just months after Hawkins.

The new single, “The Teacher,” likely sees Grohl addressing his grief after the death of his mother, who was a teacher for 30 years in Southern California and Northern Virginia. She and Dave were very close. After retiring, Virginia was a fixture at Foo Fighters concerts, leading to her writing her first book, Cradle To Stage.

“You showed me how to breathe, but never showed me how to say goodbye,” Grohl sings in “The Teacher.” “You showed me how to be, but never showed me how to say goodbye/Every page turns, it’s a lesson learned in time/You showed me how to breathe, but never showed me how to say goodbye.”
