Foo Fighters‘ livestream event “Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts” premiered on Sunday and revealed drummer Josh Freese will perform with the band on their upcoming tour. Freese replaces Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who tragically died last year.

Foo Fighters took a lighthearted approach to announcing Freese’s selection to join the band. The pre-recorded livestream began with cameos from a trio of high-profile drummers with Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee and Tool’s Danny Carey each dropping by Foo Fighters’ Studio 606 in Los Angeles.

Foo Fighters’ founding frontman/guitarist Dave Grohl, bassist Nate Mendel, guitarists Pat Smear and Chris Shiflett and keyboardist Rami Jaffee were then interrupted by Freese sitting at his drum kit. Freese performed with Foo Fighters at last year’s two Taylor Hawkins tribute concerts. The veteran drummer has amassed hundreds of credits and has performed with Weezer, Devo, Guns N’ Roses, Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle, The Vandals, Paramore and Sting, among many others.

The performance then kicked off with “All My Life” from Foo Fighters’ 2002 album, One by One. The in-studio live set featured three songs from Foo Fighters’ upcoming album, But Here We Are. The group played the recently released single “Under You,” and lead single “Rescued,” as well as the debut of the album track “Nothing at All.”

The rest of the set pulled from across Foo Fighters’ catalog as Freese kept time on “No Son of Mine,” “The Sky Is a Neighborhood,” “Monkey Wrench” and “Aurora.” There was also a segment when they jammed on “Workin’ For A Livin’” by Huey Lewis and the News.

Foo Fighters will embark on a lengthy tour beginning on Wednesday, May 24 at Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford, New Hampshire. “Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts” is available for on-demand viewing through Wednesday, May 24.
