Flashback | Ween Goes Country With The Shit Creek Boys

Ween’s fifth studio album, 1996’s 12 Golden Country Greats, marked a major departure from the sound Gene and Dean Ween had developed over their first four albums. The pair limited themselves to just one genre and enlisted the help of Nashville veterans to help record the album. When Ween hit the road in support of the LP, they brought along some of those vets as “The Shit Creek Boys.”

Video footage from that historic tour is limited to two short pro-shot clips on YouTube that were uploaded way back in 2007 with the promise of more to come. Seven years later we’re still waiting. We wanted to compile those clips, as well as a few other Shit Creek Boys guest spots as our first Flashback column. It’s not often you get to hear Ween augmented by pedal steel and fiddle.

First up, watch Ween and The Shit Creek Boys perform “Booze Me Up And Get Me High” and “Piss Up A Rope” at Nashville’s 328 Performance Hall on October 4, 1996:

Here’s the other clip from Nashville featuring “What Deaner Was Talking About”:

On May 17, 2000 Shit Creek Boys Bobby Ogdin and Danny Parks sat in with Ween on four songs in Nashville. Watch “Piss Up A Rope,” “Booze Me Up And Get Me High,” “Mister Richard Smoker” and “Fluffy”:

More recently, on April 4, 2011, Shit Creek Boys Bobby Ogdin and Stu Basore guested on “Piss Up A Rope,” “Mister Richard Smoker,” “Help Me Scrape The Mucus Off My Brain,” and “Booze Me Up & Get Me High”:
