The Flaming Lips announced a 25th anniversary vinyl reissue of their landmark 1999 album, The Soft Bulletin. The 2LP vinyl with Zoetrope designs co-created by Drew Tetz and Lips frontman Wayne Coyne arrives on September 6 and is available for preorder.
When The Flaming Lips’ ninth studio album The Soft Bulletin arrived in mid-1999, it marked a change in sonic direction for The Lips from their earlier alt/punk rock sound to a more psychedelic aesthetic.
The Soft Bulletin cover art is a modified version of a photograph taken by Lawrence Schiller titled “The Acid Test: Neal Cassady.” As per Schiller, the image is of Neal Cassady dancing with his own shadow during one of The Merry Pranksters’ acid tests in the mid-1960s.
