The Flaming Lips Dust Off ‘Oh My Pregnant Head’ In Chicago

The Flaming Lips continued their extensive world tour last night in Chicago, where the band had a big surprise in store for fans. Wayne Coyne led the band through Transmissions From The Satellite Heart classic “Oh My Pregnant Head (Labia in the Sunlight)” for the first time in nearly eight years to start the evening’s encore at the Riviera Theatre.

Last night saw the band offer an extended set as opening act Heartless Bastards were unable to perform. “Oh My Pregnant Head” was one of four songs from the 1993 LP to make the setlist in the Windy City. The Flaming Lips also played Transmissions From The Satellite Heart cuts “Turn It On,” “Moth In The Incubator” and “She Don’t Use Jelly” on Wednesday.

The career-spanning concert began with “My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion” off 2006’s At War With The Mystics, an album later represented with “Why Does It End?” Coyne and company also worked in the beloved “Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, Pt. 1,” “Do You Realize??” and other gems. The tour comes in support of the band’s most recent album, 2020’s American Head, with the LP’s “At The Movies On Quaaludes,” “Dinosaurs On The Mountain” and “Mother I’ve Taken LSD” played in Chicago.

After closing the main set with The Soft Bulletin’s “Feeling Yourself Disintegrate,” The Flaming Lips broke out “Oh My Pregnant Head” to get the evening’s encore underway. The song was last played on September 14, 2014 as per Setlist.FM. A run of “Worm Mountain,” “All We Have Is Now” and “Race For The Prize” brought Wednesday’s concert to a close.
