Feist returned to Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday to deliver a beautiful solo acoustic version of “Love Who We Are Meant To.” The song appears on the Canadian singer-songwriter’s 2023 album, Multitudes.
Leslie Feist utilized a nylon string guitar for “Love Who Are We Meant To” as images of her hand-written drafts of its lyrics were displayed behind her. The song was a fitting choice this Pride Month with such lyrics as, “We will struggle with the truth/That sometimes we don’t get to/Love who we are meant to.”

Multitudes was Feist’s first new album since 2017’s Pleasure and sixth solo LP. While the studio version of “Love Who Are We Meant To” employs lush orchestration, the one-woman unplugged take was more intimate and captivating.
“The last few years were such a period of confrontation for me, and perhaps it felt that way to some degree for everyone,” Feist wrote of Multitudes when the LP was announced. “We confronted ourselves as much as our relationships confronted us. It felt like our relational ecosystems were clearer than ever and so whatever was normally obscured – like a certain way of avoiding conflict or a certain way of talking around the subject – were thrust into an unavoidable light. It became a chance to find footing on more honest ground when the effort to maintain altitude actually took more effort than just handing ourselves over to the truth.”
