Watch Father John Misty Premiere Air’s ‘Playground Love’ In Montreal

Father John Misty came to Montreal on Tuesday. The singer-songwriter slotted in a cover of Air‘s “Playground Love” during his five-song encore at MTELUS.

FJM was on hand in the Canadian city as part of the Festival International De Jazz De Montreal. The concert at MTELUS got underway with “I Guess Time Just Makes Fools of Us All,” off his most recent LP, 2024’s Mahashmashana.

Father John Misty also delivered a bevy of older favorites in Montreal including “Mr. Tillman,” “Nancy From Now On,” “Chateau Lobby #4 (in C for Two Virgins),” “I’m Writing A Novel” and “Real Love Baby.”

After initiating the encore with the title track off the excellent 2017 LP, Pure Comedy, FJM delivered a first time play of Air’s “Playground Love.” The French duo adapted the full version of the song from their contribution to The Virgin Suicides score. Misty crooned the lyrics, originally sung by Phoenix's Thomas Mars, over a jazzy rendition of the song for the Festival International De Jazz De Montreal performance.

FJM finished up the show by sandwiching the I Love You, Honeybear standout “Holy Shit,” between two Mahashmashana cuts, “She Cleans Up” and the title track. Watch Father John Misty debut “Playground Love” below:
