Fare You Well Furthur | Hiatus Starts After Mexican Finale

After four full years plus, Furthur is officially on hiatus following last night’s Paradise Waits finale at the Hard Rock in Riviera Maya, Mexico. As expected, the band bid fans farewell with a “Brokedown Palace” encore.

In addition to Furthur’s two sets, attendees were treated to a surprise acoustic set from Bob Weir on the beach that included takes on “Peggy-O,” “Easy To Slip,” “Not Fade Away” and more. Later on Phil, Bob and Co. opened up with “The Music Never Stopped,” perhaps a statement on their future. The first set contained a couple of Built To Last gems in both the title track and “Foolish Heart,” as well as the “I Know You Rider” fans were waiting for after “China Cat” was performed earlier in the run. For their final set for some time, Furthur started off with one of the Grateful Dead’s earliest originals -“The Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion)” and continued with an intriguing “Dark Star” > “Morning Dew” > “Dark Star” sequence. The band tipped their hat to the Live/Dead era by seguing “Dark Star” into “Saint Stephen” and then “The Eleven.” Up next was part of the full “Terrapin Station” suite and the fitting “Not Fade Away.” (the second of the day!) Furthur has no future plans at the moment.
