Evanston Folk Festival Announces Inaugural Lineup: Sierra Ferrell, Patty Griffin & More

The new event takes place north of Chicago on September 7 – 8.

SPACE Presents will host the inaugural Evanston Folk Festival at Dawes Park in Evanston, Illinois on September 7 – 8. The lineup for the new event located north of Chicago includes Sierra Ferrell, Patty Griffin, Hiss Golden Messenger, Sarah Jarosz and more.

“What could be better than gathering incredible musicians and songwriting luminaries with Lake Michigan in the background? said Jake Samuels, director of music for SPACE & 16 On Center. “SPACE is so grateful for the opportunity to bring an event like this to our beloved hometown. We’ve been blown away by the support we’ve received so far from our neighbors, the City, and local organizations.”

Among the other +30 artists on the inaugural EFF lineup includes Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Madi Diaz, Gaby Moreno, Dom Flemons, Mon Rovîa, Yasmin Williams, Willi Carlisle, Jon Muq, Adeem the Artist, Jontavious Willis, Dom Flemons, Chaparelle and Tré Burt, alongside several others. Additionally, the festival’s Conversation Tent “will bring together thought leaders and visionaries to explore the songwriting craft and history of folk music and storytelling via panel discussions.” Participants include Jeff Tweedy, Ann Powers, Greg Kot, Francesca Royster, Mark Guarino, and more to be announced.

Evanston Folk Festival announcement indicated three stages will present musical performances. There will also be family-oriented programming and locally sourced food and beverage vendors.

“The Evanston Folk Festival provides us with the opportunity to enjoy wonderful music, stimulating conversation, and community fellowship in a stunning natural environment,” Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss said, “It’s going to be a real treat!”

Separately ticketed EFF after shows will feature Deer Tick performing at SPACE and Rufus Wainwright performing at Northwestern University’s Cahn Auditorium on Saturday, September 7 and Steve Earle performing at Cahn Auditorium on Sunday, September 8.
