Paradise Rock Club hosted Boston’s annual Hot Stove Cool Music charity concert that benefits the Foundation To Be Named Later organization founded by former Boston Red Sox executive and current Chicago Cubs president of operations Theo Epstein and his twin brother Paul Epstein. Pearl Jam frontman and noted Cub fan Eddie Vedder was among the all-star lineup of performers at Saturday night’s event.
Vedder was on stage alongside Will Dailey and members of Letters To Cleo, Buffalo Tom and Belly. The evening also saw former New York Yankee outfielder Bernie Williams, baseball reporter Peter Gammons and Theo Epstein join in on guitar as well as Cubs broadcaster Len Kasper playing bass. A regular participant in the yearly Hot Stove Cool Music Benefit Concerts held in Boston and Chicago, Vedder once again fronted the ensemble on a number of classic rock covers and selections from the Pearl Jam catalog for the “Cubs & Red Sox Edition” of the event.
Vedder led covers of The Who’s “The Kids Are Alright” and “I Can’t Explain,” Talking Heads’ “Love -> Building On Fire,” Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb,” Bruce Springsteen’s “Bobby Jean,” The Rolling Stones’ “Waiting On A Friend,” and Pearl Jam’s “Corduroy,” “Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town,” “Wishlist” and “Better Man,” among others. The night ended with Vedder leading the ensemble through a rendition of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World.”
