Guitarist Dweezil Zappa has laid low since the pandemic and ensuing pause in live music that brought his Hot Rats Live! Plus Other Hot Stuff! Tour to an early conclusion in March of 2020. The son of legendary guitarist/composer Frank Zappa will finally end his hiatus from the road in August when he embarks on the Rox-Postrophy Tour.
The Rox-Postrophy Tour takes in name from Roxy & Elsewhere and Apostrophe (‘), a pair of records released by Frank Zappa in 1974. The former was primarily recorded live at famed Hollywood club The Roxy Theatre December 8 – 10, while the latter is a studio set. Dweezil will honor the 50th anniversaries of the albums by performing what is described in a press release of “unique hybrid arrangements” of “fan-favorite tracks” off both records. “The songs you think you know, may just end up surprising you with parts you’ve never heard before” explained Dweezil in a statement.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve been on stage playing the music I love. I’m inspired to try new things and looking forward to playing with the best musicians I know,” noted Dweezil Zappa. “I’ll be bringing a hot setlist of Frank Zappa classics and personal favorites to all of the fans.” The guitarist went on to state, “If you have never heard my father’s music, this might be the tour to start your obsession.”
The lineup of musicians joining Dweezil for the “Rox-Postrophy” tour was not revealed in the press release. However, Dweezil shared an Instagram clip showcasing young musicians guitarist Zach Tabori and keyboardist Bobby Victor who will be part of the ensemble. Additionally, he revealed in the comments former Zappa Plays Zappa members Scheila Gonzalez (saxophone, flute, keyboards, harmonica, vocals), Kurt Morgan (bass, vocals) and Ryan Brown (drums, percussion, vocals) are each in the new band.
