Space Armadillo put their own stamp on the Phish classic “Sanity.” The band unveiled official video of their performance of the song from a July 19, 2024 concert at South Carolina’s Charleston Pour House.
Longtime Phish lyricist Steve “Dude of Life” Pollak is joined in Space Armadillo by guitarist Andy Greenberg (Runaway Gin), Ross Bogan (Doom Flamingo) and Lureto on keyboards, Ben Mossman (Little Bird) on bass and Stuart White (The Motown Throwdown) on drums. The band performs a mix of Phish tunes Pollak wrote with Trey Anastasio and originals The Dude penned with Greenberg.

“Sanity” is among a batch of Phish songs featuring lyrics and melodies written by The Dude Of Life that also includes such beloved favorites as “Fluffhead,” “Suzy Greenberg,” “Slave To The Traffic Light” and “Dinner And A Movie.” Anastasio and his Phish bandmates took Pollak’s “Sanity” lyrics and composed a march-based arrangement they’ve been trotting out occasionally at their concerts since 1986.
Space Armadillo reimagines “Sanity” as a Pink Floyd meets Radiohead experimental jam. The Charleston version spans over 11 minutes and features Pollak and Greenberg sharing lead vocal duties.
