Dolly Parton unveiled her take on 4 Non Blondes’ 1993 smash “What’s Up?” featuring the song’s original writer and singer, Linda Perry. “What’s Up?” is the latest preview of Parton’s long-awaited Rockstar album.

Rockstar arrives on November 17 via Butterfly Records. The 30-song collection is Dolly Parton’s first rock album and comes after she was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of the institution’s Class of 2022.

The forthcoming LP consists of nine originals and 21 covers. Linda Perry is among an impressive array of guest artists who contributed to Rockstar. Sting, Stevie Nicks, Steve Perry, Lizzo, Steven Tyler, Ann Wilson, Miley Cyrus and Warren Haynes are just a few others who appear on the album. Dolly Parton recently shared her version of “Let It Be” featuring surviving Beatles members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr as well as Peter Frampton and Mick Fleetwood.

4 Non Blondes released “What’s Up?” on their lone studio album, 1992’s Bigger, Better, Faster, More. Linda Perry wrote the song that peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1993 and was a global hit for the band.

“First of all, I love Linda Perry. Second of all, I love this song written by Linda. Third of all, I love being a part of this video to try to make people think about what’s going on in this world today,” stated Dolly Parton. “Shout out to the little children that helped with the video! If our children don’t make it, then what will? Again, I ask ‘What’s Up?’ Enjoy.”

“How is one supposed to react when the greatest and most prolific songwriter in the world wants to cover a song YOU wrote? Her version of What’s Up? is so good,” added Linda Perry. “Her spin on it made me feel like it was her song.”

Dolly Parton’s “What’s Up?” video hits YouTube tomorrow, Saturday, September 23 at 10 a.m. ET. Stream audio below:
