Watch Dogs In A Pile Jam On Grateful Dead & David Bowie Classics In Salt Lake City

Dogs In A Pile began their trip back east following a trek around the West Coast with a show at The State Room in Salt Lake City on Tuesday. The New Jersey-based jam quintet offered a pair of Grateful Dead favorites before jamming on a David Bowie classic during the second set.
Dogs In A Pile — guitarists Brian Murray and Jimmy Law, keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan, drummer Joey Babick and bassist Sam Lucid — had more Grateful Dead in store for Salt Lake in the first frame, arriving in the form of the funky GD number, “Mr. Charlie,” which followed set opener “Westward.”

Staple “Look Johnny” came next ahead of “Today” and an unfinished “Applesauce.” The Cab Calloway classic “Minnie the Moocher” then preceded “Lazy Susan.” The first set wrapped with a pair up of “Lattice” and the nostalgic Vince Guaraldi Peanuts tune “Linus and Lucy.”
Dogs kicked off the second frame with “Yum T. Dum.” The new tune, “Unfocused,” which the band debuted on New Year’s Eve 2024 in Saratoga Springs, New York, as per GoSet.net. DIAP launched a three-song seamless sequence. The band concluded the segment with a round of “Jack & Coke” and “Chop Shop.”
DIAP then dove into the Grateful Dead’s “Help on the Way” and touched on its companion “Slipknot!” The band then jammed on elements of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance.” Dogs have yet to play the 1983 Bowie hit in full.
The jam gave way to “Appleseed” ahead of “Thomas Duncan, Pt. 3.” DIAP then linked up “Spun” with a cover of Ween’s “Voodoo Lady” to seal the set. Dogs then treated The State Room to an encore of “Power Trip.”
