Dogs In A Pile celebrated Halloween at Beer City Music Hall in Oklahoma City on Thursday, the band’s first headlining Halloween show. The New Jersey jam outfit delivered a second set inspired by the video game Guitar Hero for the occasion.

DIAP — guitarists Jimmy Law and Brian Murray, keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan, bassist Sam Lucid and drummer Joey Babick — launched the first set with a pairing of staples “Little Things” and “Look Johnny.”

The quintet then linked up “Spun,” “Por Que Pedro,” “Tillie” and “Gumball.” “Tillie” saw Murray and Kaplan swapping roles on guitar and keyboards respectively. The DIAP original “Creep” followed ahead of a Grateful Dead cover, “Dupree’s Diamond Blues.” Dogs closed the first frame with “Bent Strange.”

DIAP returned in costume and handled a little unfinished business to begin the set by wrapping up “Por Que Pedro.” Dogs then got into the Guitar Hero material, which were all debut covers beginning with Jimmy “Slash” Law leading Foghat’s “Slow Ride” and Guns N’ Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle.” Kaplan then picked up the bass again as Lucid led Social Distortion’s “Story of My Life.”

Next, Kaplan, on a nifty Nord guitar, guided the group through the KISS tune “Strutter” and also handled Tenacious D’s “The Metal.” Murray then captained the Kansas epic “Carry on Wayward Son,” followed by The Killers’ “When You Were Young.” Next up, an appropriate cover of Jimmy Bryant’s “Frettin’ Fingers,” an instrumental that has existed in the Dogs repertoire since last fall.

Kaplan, back on guitar, then fronted the band on Primus’ “John the Fisherman.” Lucid then handled Zach de la Rocha’s vocals alongside “Morello” Murray for Rage Against The Machine’s “Bulls on Parade.” Next, Kaplan, dressed as The Devil, led the way on the iconic Charlie Daniels Band song “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” DIAP wrapped their Halloween show with the classic instrumental “Jessica.”
