Documentary | Finding The Funk

Earlier this week VH1 premiered a long-in-the-making documentary called Finding The Funk. The film was put together by Nelson George and was narrated by Questlove of The Roots. Bootsy Collins, P-Funk, Sly Stone and James Brown are just a few of the funk legends included in the piece, while the likes of The Soul Rebels represent the new wave of funk acts.

There’s never-been-seen footage a plenty mixed with interviews held over the past 30 years included in the comprehensive feature. While we wish more acclaim was given to The Meters role in funk, overall George did a fine job in getting to the root of funk music. We especially dug the segment on Sly Stone which features a rare interview with the reclusive Stone.
