The Disco Biscuits' bassist Marc Brownstein took to social media to reveal original drummer Sam Altman will reunite with the band at their June 11 concert on Long Island for a special sit-in. Brownie also crowdsourced setlist ideas for the special guest spot.
Altman formed the band in the early ’90s with Brownstein, guitarist Jon Gutwillig and keyboardist Ben Hayflick as students at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Aron Magner joined in 1995 and the group changed its name to The Disco Biscuits, solidifying the classic lineup. Sammy left Bisco in 2005 to pursue a career as a doctor.
Bisco’s show on June 11 at The Paramount in Huntington, New York will take place just around the corner from where Altman grew up. “We thought it would be nice to invite him out there for the shows,” Brownie explained in the video. “Sammy’s gonna come out and play with us in Huntington. We’re gonna have a kit, we’re gonna have auxiliary percussion so [current drummer] Marlon [Lewis] can stay up there.”
Marc Brownstein then turned his attention to the call to action. “What songs? Drop it right here. What songs should Sammy sit in on? That’s what I’m thinking about right now,” Brownie added, enticing fans to leave comments on Instagram and Facebook with song requests.
Altman shared his own request in a comment responding to the Instagram post, asking for “Magellan->Nughuffer->Basis.” Watch the video announcing the return of “The Professor” below:
