The Disco Biscuits rang in 2024 with a New Year’s Eve concert at Franklin Music Hall in their hometown of Philadelphia. The band delivered three sets — one of which took on an “Electricity” theme at the venue previously known as the Electric Factory on the site of a former power plant — and continued a trend of debuting new material.
Bisco staple “Nughuffer” opened the evening’s festivities and saw bassist Marc Brownstein deliver a humorous tale about dealing with changes, which included handing keyboardist Aron Magner the title as the band’s biggest stoner. In a nod to the initial “Nughuffer” saga, Brownie punctuated his story by recounting the time Magner broke a bong he brought to Club Space in Miami.

The rest of the first set continued with “Voices Insane,” an inverted “Crickets,” the recently introduced original “Photograph” and a return to “Nughuffer.”
The second set on New Year’s Eve was the aforementioned Electricity-themed portion of the show. Donning matching black jumpsuits, the Disco Biscuits kicked off the electrified segment with “Reactor,” adding “Macarena” samples along the way. Bisco then busted out a cover of Eddy Grant’s “Electric Avenue,” performing the song for the first time since February 22, 2014, marking a gap of 371 shows between appearances.

“Shocked!,” one of 14 new songs debuted live by the band in 2022 that are expected to be part of an upcoming space-themed rock opera album, was next to arrive. Another recent newcomer, “The Deal” and its “Electricity I can feel it coming over me / Electricity I can feel it coursing up my sleeves” lyrics, kept the theme flowing as midnight approached. Frequent Bisco post-countdown vehicle “Helicopter” once again ushered in the New Year as guitarist Jon Gutwillig changed the lyrics to “Happy New Year, look out below!”
The third set started and ended with longtime favorite “Basis For A Day.” The song surrounded a performance of the band’s new original song “Fire Will Exchange,” which developed from the August 13, 2023 “Basis” jam. The new tune segued into the apt “We Like To Party” ahead of a return to “Basis” to complete the song and set.
The night ended with an encore made up of “The Wormhole” heading into a “Buy The Time” jam before returning to “Reactor.”

Prior to Sunday’s New Year’s Eve concert, Bisco played a show on December 30 at Franklin Music Hall that featured a Hometown-themed first set and the debut of the band’s new original, “Ring The Doorbell Twice.” The Disco Biscuits kicked off their New Year’s run on December 28 at Palladium Times Square in New York City and debuted another new song, “Dino Baby.”
