The Disco Biscuits brought their Summer 2023 West Coast Tour to Boise on Tuesday night and began their show at Revolution with the funny rarity “Ducks And Geese Are Free.” The light-hearted rap had only appeared in six prior setlists, with its last performance taking place 15 years ago.
Debuted in 2001, “Ducks And Geese Are Free” was played four times that year, often to fill space while dealing with power issues. Bassist Marc Brownstein would rap light-hearted verses needing only a microphone and a drum beat and occasionally some supportive beatboxing. “Ducks And Geese Are Free” made additional one-off appearances in 2003 and again on April 19, 2008, purportedly making it 638 shows between performances following last night’s bust out.

The unexpected opener setup an otherwise seamless first set launching and ending with Pink Floyd’s “Run Like Hell.” Within that stretch, Bisco layered in the recently debuted new original “Buy The Time” which just like it did after its premiere, segued into “Lake Shore Drive.” A pair of staples, keyboardist Aron Magner’s “Spaga” and an inverted “Abraxas,” flowed into the return to finish “Run Like Hell.”
Hours after announcing the two-day Biscoland event, “We Like To Party” opened set two and went unfinished ahead of a transition into a “Tractorbeam Jam” that eventually made its way into “Munchkin Invasion.” The band then moved into another newcomer, “Falling” from the new rock opera The Very Moon that Magner and guitarist Jon Gutwillig workshopped in May. “Air Song” filled in after “Falling” and led back into the completion of “Munchkin Invasion.”
The Electron-originating “Miracles” was selected for Tuesday’s encore. Bisco’s Summer 2023 West Coast Tour continues tonight at the Knitting Factory Concert House in Spokane, Washington.
