Biscofluence: The Disco Biscuits Covers Spotify Playlist
By Andy Kahn Aug 17, 2019 • 7:52 am PDT
This week, The Disco Biscuits guitarist Jon “The Barber” Gutwillig posted a message on the band’s Facebook page. The short note indicated the recent years of light touring and personal life and side-project focus was coming to an end.
Here’s what Barber wrote:
To our dedicated fans,
For years now we’ve been working on our lives away from music. One thing we all realized during this time was how lucky we were to bring happiness to people by something we loved to do. Well we are seizing this moment…
Set break is over.
Gas tank’s refilled.
We are back.Get ready, the best is yet to come,
Jon Barber

In response to the exciting news for Bisco fans, this edition of Saturday Stream examines one aspect of the Disco Biscuits’ live shows: performing covers. While the quartet that also features bassist Marc Brownstein, drummer Allen Aucoin and keyboardist Aron Magner has a mighty cache of originals, they have since their beginning incorporated their own arrangements of other people’s compositions.
Constrained to songs tDB covered that are available on Spotify, the playlist below features the band covering 12 different tunes paired with the Bisco version. There are tracks by Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Grateful Dead, Elvis Presley and Men At Work. There are also several selections by classical composers such as Tchaikovsky, Rossini and others.
Versions that popularized the songs are followed by the Bisco versions (sort the playlist by Artist to hear all of the Disco Biscuits covers or all of the original versions together).
