Dirty Projectors will resume rolling out a series of five EPs expected in 2020 with the release of Super João via Domino on September 4. Super João contains four songs written, produced and performed by frontman Dave Longstreth including the single “Holy Mackerel.”
Dave tracked the material on Super João straight to tape with Kyle Thomas (King Tuff) after penning lyrics with Kyle Field (Little Wings). “Super João is a feeling,” Longstreth explained of an EP inspired by Arthur Russell, Chet Baker and bossa nova pioneer João Gilberto.

On November 13, Dirty Projectors will unveil a compilation featuring all five of their 2020 EPs as 5EPs through Domino. “This cycle of EPs is about growth, transition, liminal space, shifting identity. Alan Ginsberg had a phrase ‘first thought, best thought’ to talk about a particular kind of writing – not automatic writing exactly, but quick, spontaneous, trusting,” Longstreth noted. “For me, these songs are about rediscovering that place.”
