Popping In On TAB Bandmate: Trey Anastasio Guests With Dezron Douglas Quartet At Village Vanguard

Bassist Dezron Douglas and his quartet played a six-night residency at iconic New York City jazz club the Village Vanguard that ended on Sunday. Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio made a surprise guest appearance with the band led by his Trey Anastasio Band and Trey Anastasio and Classic TAB bandmate on two songs to cap the early show this past Friday (March 22) night.
The Dezron Douglas Quartet finds Douglas accompanied by saxophonist Emilio Modeste, pianist George Burton and drummer Joe Dyson. Anastasio emerged at the end of the set to add his guitar to the songs “B Soul!” and “Release.”

Dezron Douglas joined the Trey Anastasio Band in 2021 following the death of founding bassist Tony Markellis. Douglas has since been the guitarist’s bassist in TAB, Trey Anastasio and Classic TAB and the Trey Anastasio Trio.
The bassist’s latest solo album, Atalaya, arrived in 2022. Douglas’ quartet is featured on the 10-track release.
Douglas will take part in a Pharoah Sanders tribute put together by Ravi Coltrane at SFJazz in San Francisco on March 29. Trey Anastasio and Classic TAB will embark on a spring tour in May.
