Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Guest With Widespread Panic In St. Augustine

On Friday night Widespread Panic played the first of two sold out shows at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre in St. Augustine, Florida that brings the September portion of the band’s Fall Tour to a close. The Georgia rockers were joined by Florida residents Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi for their encore in St. Augustine.

Friday’s show, like many on the tour, was heavy on older songs. The band opened with a pair of songs off Bombs & Butterflies: “Hope In A Hopeless World” and “Glory.” From there, WSP played old favorites “Worry,” “1×1” and “Radio Child” along with more recent numbers “Cotton Was King” and “Tail Dragger.” Last night’s second set started with a powerful “Postcard” > “Impossible” > “Slippin’ Into Darkness” sequence that saw crew member Steve Lopez add percussion to the latter. Following “St. Louis” and “Rock,” Panic ended the set with a roller coaster suite of “Proving Ground” > “Jack” > “Chilly Water” > “Drums” > “Chilly Water.”

When Widespread Panic returned for the encore they were accompanied by Derek and Susan. The husband and wife leaders of the Tedeschi Trucks Band added to covers of “Good Morning Little Schoolgirl” and “High Time We Went.” Both covers were tour debuts for Panic. The band returns to St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Saturday night.
