Death Cab for Cutie will release a new studio album entitled Asphalt Meadows via Atlantic Records on September 16. The quintet unveiled lead single “Roman Candles” today and confirmed North American fall tour dates with support from Yo La Tengo and Low at select shows.

Produced by John Congleton, Asphalt Meadows marks the band’s first full-length studio album since 2018’s Thank You For Today. Frontman Ben Gibbard wrote the words for all 11 tracks. The LP was recorded during sessions held at Grumpybeard and United Recording in Los Angeles as well as at Seattle’s Studio Litho.

“[‘Roman Candles’] is about the crippling, existential dread that goes hand in hand with living in a nervous city on a dying planet, and that the only way to be in the moment is to let it all go,” noted Gibbard about the new single in a statement. “The lyrics were cobbled from a couple of different songs dealing with my general sense of anxiety — the feeling that the fabric that weaves a functioning society together was crumbling during the pandemic.”

Death Cab For Cutie follows previously announced July tour dates with an extensive fall tour. The 27-date trek begins in Madison, Wisconsin on September 22 and continues through a two-night stand in their hometown of Seattle on October 26 and 27. Chicago, Philadelphia, New York City, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Phoenix and Los Angeles are among the cities Death Cab For Cutie will hit over the course of the excursion.

Tickets for the new dates go up for grabs next Friday, May 20 at 10 a.m. local time. Buy Death Cab For Cutie tickets on Ticketmaster and AXS. Find a full list of Death Cab For Cutie tour dates by clicking below.
