The Dean Ween Group :: 02.03.17 :: Emo’s :: Austin, TX

Guitarist Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo brought The Dean Ween Group to Austin last night for a performance at Emo’s. The lineup that played Emo’s on Friday saw Dean Ween joined by guitarist Joey Kramer, drummer Ray Kubian, percussionist Mike Dillon and Deaner’s longtime Ween band mate Dave Dreiwitz on drums. Ween drummer Claude Coleman, Jr. and his Amandla group kicked off the festivities.

The Dean Ween Group’s lengthy set started with Ween classic “It’s Gonna Be A Long Night” and featured other Ween gems “I’ve Got To Put The Hammer Down” and “Paddy Fackler.” Deaner and his band put the focus on material from last year’s The Deaner Album including takes on the instrumental “Dickie Betts” as well as standouts “Garry,” “Exercise Man,” “Mercedes Benz” and “Gum.” Kubian stepped up front to lead a cover of David Bowie’s “Width Of A Circle,” while The Deaner Album’s “I’ll Take It (And Break It)” served as the evening’s encore. The Dean Ween Group ends their current tour on Saturday night in Dallas.
