The annual Kanpe Kanaval event benefiting the KANAPE charity organization co-founded by Haitian-born Arcade Fire member Régine Chassagne was held last night at Society for Arts and Technology in Montreal. The fourth installment of the event that supports humanitarian efforts in Haiti featured Chassagne and her Arcade Fire band mates Win Butler and Richard Reed Parry performing with David Byrne, formerly of Talking Heads.
Kanpe Kanaval featured co-host actor Rainn Wilson, Haitian Rara musicians, percussionists and dancers, a DJ set by Butler under his DJ Windows 98 moniker and included Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Gardy Fury, Saul Williams, Vox Sambou and Fwonte on its lineup. According to reports, Byrne led the ensemble of assembled musicians through Talking Heads classics, “Road To Nowhere,” “Slippery People” and “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody),” as well as the traditional “We Bid You Goodnight.” Below is fan-captured footage from the performance.
