Watch Previously Unreleased Footage Of David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust Tour
The never-before-seen footage features “Starman” as its soundtrack.

Never-before-seen footage from David Bowie‘s legendary Ziggy Stardust Tour has been unveiled. Captured by late Bowie collaborator, photographer Mick Rock, the footage features the album version of “Starman” a its soundtrack.
David Bowie issued his The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars album on June 16, 1972. The iconic record includes such beloved songs as “Moonage Daydream,” “Suffragette City,” “Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide,” “Starman” and the titular “Ziggy Stardust.” The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars was a massive success that launched David Bowie to worldwide superstardom.

David Bowie hit the road as the alien rocker Ziggy Stardust for a 1972 – 73 concert tour in support of The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars, Hunky Dory (1971) and Aladdin Sane (1973). Bowie was joined on the Ziggy Stardust Tour by the Spiders From Mars, the core of which consisted of guitarist Mick Ronson, drummer Mick Woodmansey and bassist Trevor Bolder (other auxiliary musicians participated a various points of the tour as well).
The Ziggy Stardust Tour began on January 29, 1972 and ended on July 3, 1973. David Bowie played 191 shows including three legs in the UK, two in the U.S. and one in Japan. Bowie’s popularity grew as the tour progressed and he moved from small clubs to large halls by the time the excursion wrapped.

The new “Starman” video was released to promote the first-ever Dolby Atmos spatial audio version of the album which will be available on Blu-Ray Audio on September 6 via Parlophone Records. Mick Rock filmed the footage during the UK legs of the Ziggy Stardust Tour.
David Bowie retired the Ziggy Stardust persona at the end of the tour. Bowie made the unexpected announcement during the final show on July 3, 1973 at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. The last show was also noteworthy for David Bowie's inspired collaboration with Jeff Beck.
