Dave Matthews Band welcomed Jacksonville resident Susan Tedeschi to guest with the group on a cover of “Cortez The Killer” by Neil Young on Wednesday night. The TTB/DMB summit took place at Jacksonville’s Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena towards the end of the septet’s main set.
One night after opening the tour in Pensacola, Dave Matthews led the ensemble through a series of different songs with the exception of five repeats. Classics such as “So Much To Say,” “Tripping Billies,” “Don’t Drink The Water,” “Satellite,” “What Would You Say” and “Warehouse” were mixed with more recent fare including “That Girl Is You,” “Can’t Stop,” “Do You Remember” and “Lying In The Hands Of God” during the 21-song performance. DMB closed out the frame with a take on Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower” and ended the night by pairing “Granny” and “Ants Marching” as the encore.

Susan Tedeschi emerged after “Rapunzel” to duet with Matthews and show off her fierce guitar work on “Cortez.” Tedeschi changed one of Young’s lyrics from “People worked together and they lifted many stones” to “The people like Dave and I worked together and they lifted up the show.” Newest DMB member Buddy Strong shined with an intense solo towards the end of the cover. Last night was the first time Susan Tedeschi performed with the Dave Matthews Band. Watch video of the collaboration below:
