Dave Matthews Band Show In North Carolina To Benefit Organizations Defending Equality
By Scott Bernstein May 23, 2016 • 6:16 am PDT
This Friday the Dave Matthews Band will bring their 25th anniversary tour to PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte, North Carolina. While some acts have canceled shows in the state due to North Carolina’s recently passed HB2 law, DMB will go ahead with their upcoming show in Charlotte but will donate a portion of the proceeds to organizations defending equality.
The group will donate to five charitable organizations through its Bama Works Fund: American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Lambda Legal, ACLU of North Carolina, Equality NC, and Time Out Youth. DMB came up with the list of charities by working with NC Needs You, an organization that encourages artists to keep their dates in North Carolina in order to bring awareness and resources to the fight for equality in response to House Bill 2.
Here’s more from a statement announcing the donations:
ACLU, Lambda Legal and ACLU of North Carolina are challenging House Bill 2 in Federal court. The North Carolina law removes local legal protections for LGBT people and prohibits transgender people from using public facilities that correspond to their gender identity. Equality NCis dedicated to securing equal rights and justice for LGBTQ North Carolinians. Time Out Youth is a grassroots organization that provides support for LGBTQ teens in the Charlotte area.
Dave Matthews Band resumes tour tomorrow in Pelham, Alabama.
