Jennifer Hartswick shared the stage with Dave Matthews Band for the first time on Saturday night at the Extra Innings Festival in Tempe, Arizona. The Trey Anastasio Band trumpeter/vocalist sat in on “Jimi Thing” towards the end of DMB’s headlining set at the inaugural event.
Extra Innings made its debut at Tempe’s Beach Park on Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2 after the long-running Innings Festival at the same site the previous weekend. Dave Matthews Band brought the two-day baseball-themed music festival to a close as part of a lineup that also included Chris Stapleton, Noah Kahan, Turnpike Troubadours, Sheryl Crow, Morgan Wade, Gin Blossoms, Elle King and many others.

Dave Matthews Band’s appearance at Extra Innings was the septet’s second show of 2024 following their tour opener in Las Vegas the previous night. The group threw down a 16-song set featuring several tunes played in Vegas including three new covers trotted out in Sin City.
Four of the first six songs played by Dave Matthews Band in Tempe were plucked from the group’s 1996’s studio album Crash. Up first was “#41” before they covered David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance,” which was premiered the previous night. Title track “Crash Into Me” came next ahead of the LP’s “So Much To Say” and “Too Much” linked by “Anyone Seen The Bridge.” DMB then performed “Madman’s Eyes,” the evening’s lone offering off their latest record Walk Around The Moon.
The set continued with fan-favorites “Don’t Drink The Water” and “Satellite.” Matthews then led the group through “Will It Go Round In Circles,” a Billy Preston cover unveiled on Friday in Las Vegas. Next up was staple “Grey Street” before Dave welcomed Hartswick to the stage. JHa delivered an emphathic trumpet solo to get the “Jimi Thing” jam underway. Hartswick left to leave the seven-piece alone for their second version of ZZ Top’s “Cheap Sunglasses” in as many nights. “You & Me” followed along with a “The Last Stop” that was mashed up with “Immigrant Song” (Led Zeppelin) towards the end. Dave Matthews Band said farewell by working “Funny The Way It Is” into the beloved “Ants Marching.”
