Guitarist Eric Krasno was Dave Matthews Band‘s special guest on Sunday during the group’s second of two concerts at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin. Krasno joined DMB for “Lie In Our Graves” late in the evening.
Eric Krasno and his band, The Assembly, kicked off the show with a set of their own at Alpine Valley. Krasno has a long history with Dave Matthews Band. The Soulive and Lettuce co-founder made his DMB debut on May 14, 2001 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when he added to “Jimi Thing.” Over 20 guest spots followed with the most recent before last night taking place at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 29, 2018.
Dave Matthews Band looked to 2018’s Come Tomorrow in starting their show last night with “That Girl Is You.” Classics “Granny” and “The Stone” came next before the seven-piece treated fans to more recent fare via “Walk Around The Moon.” A run of “Can’t Stop,” “Crush” and “Sweet” followed. Then, Matthews put down his guitar and led the band through a horn-driven cover of Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer.”
The main set rolled on with the band’s first “The Dreaming Tree” since May 25. Frontman Dave Matthews then teased “Kill The Preacher” as a lead-in to “Why I Am.” Krasno emerged a few songs later on “Lie In Our Graves.” The guitarist tore through his solo on the classic from DMB’s 1996 album, Crash.
Eric’s guest spot was followed by “So Right” and “Jimi Thing.” Next, the crowd urged on a bit of a jam by singing Sly & The Family Stone’s “Thank You (Falenttinme Be Mice Elf Again)” before DMB dusted off “The Ocean And The Butterfly” for its tour debut. Last night’s set concluded with oldies “Don’t Drink The Water” and “Stay (Wasting Time)” split by “You & Me.” Dave offered a solo take on Willie Nelson’s “Funny How Time Slips Away” to begin an encore that also included the group’s beloved “All Along The Watchtower” cover, complete with an excursion through “Stairway To Heaven.”
