Dave Matthews Band presented the 2022 debut of “Shake Me Like A Monkey” on Tuesday as part of their show at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater. Guitarist Tim Reynolds returned to the stage last night in Wantagh, New York after missing this past weekend’s concerts in Noblesville, Indiana due to COVID.

Surprises were in store at the top of the evening as Dave Matthews Band opened with “Recently” for the first time since July 11, 2014. Then, the septet served up “Shake Me Like A Monkey.” The cut from 2009’s Big Whiskey & The GrooGrux King was last played on September 22, 2021.

Dave Matthews Band went on to deliver a career-spanning mix of material at the New York City area venue. The tour debut was followed by “Come On Come On” off the group’s most recent LP, 2018’s Come Tomorrow. Next came staple “Madman’s Eyes,” a song unveiled last year that has been played 14 times so far in 2022. DMB then offered the tour’s second “The Stone” and a rare “Sweet” before Dave Matthews teased “Kill The Preacher” as a lead in to “Why I Am.”

The rest of the 18-song main set featured such classics as “Warehouse,” “Grey Street” and “Crush.” Matthews and company offered the “Pantala Naga Pampa”/”Rapunzel” pairing ahead of “Louisiana Bayou” to close the frame. Dave returned solo for “Virginia In The Rain” to begin an encore that also included a full-band “Two Step.”
