Dave Matthews Band brought out fiddler Casey Driessen for an extensive collaboration during their concert Saturday in Charlotte. Frontman Dave Matthews was accompanied by Driessen at the start of the encore for the premiere performance of a new original song entitled “Paper Town.”
Driessen appeared in the middle of the main set at Truliant Amphitheater. The sit-in began with Driessen adding fiddle runs to “Everyday.” An extensive “Jimi Thing” saw Driessen further interacting with Matthews and his bandmates. Driessen then provided the signature fiddle lines to “Tripping Billies” to complete his initial time with DMB.
Matthews often starts encores on stage alone for solo performances of songs. Saturday’s concert in Charlotte saw him joined again by Driessen at the start of the finale for the debut of “Paper Town.”
Matthews noted Driessen and DMB trumpeter Rashawn Ross attended music school together many years ago and explained that “Paper Town” was inspired by a +100-year-old paper mill in the town of Canton, North Carolina.
