Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and producer/musician Greg Kurstin picked a Barry Manilow classic for the third night of this year’s The Hanukkah Sessions video series. Grohl and Kurstin covered “Copacabana” by the artist born Barry Pincus as they continue a tribute to Jewish musicians that coincides with the eight nights of the holiday.
Dave Grohl sang lounge singer style and played drums and percussion on the song from Manilow’s 1978 studio album, Even Now. Greg Kurstin handled keys and added synth’d out backing vocals to the disco-tinged “Copacabana” cover. Both musicians dressed to the nines.
“Barry Pincus – not only one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th (or any) century, but a mega-mensch to boot!” wrote the pair in a note accompanying the clip. “So, like a good neighbor, you deserve a break today. So grab a bucket of chicken and let’s get stuck on….. BARRY MANILOW’S ‘Copacabana’!”
