Dark Star Orchestra Offers Original JGB Setlist In Utica

As we reported, Grateful Dead tribute act Dark Star Orchestra turned their attention to the Jerry Garcia Band on Friday and Saturday nights in Jay, Vermont. For the third night of DSO Does JGB, which took place on Sunday at Utica’s Saranac Brewery, the band took a different route to honor the JGB.

Unlike the Vermont performances, Dark Star Orchestra created a Jerry Garcia Band setlist of their own for Sunday’s show. The band, without guitarist Rob Eaton, mixed Jerry originals such as “Sugaree” and “Reuben and Cerise” with a bevy of covers favored by JGB including The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence,” Bob Dylan’s “It Takes A Lot To Laugh It Takes A Train To Cry,” Jimmy Cliff’s “The Harder They Come” and Bramblett/Russell’s “Lonesome And A Long Way From Home.” DSO brought the evening and weekend to a close with “That’s Alright Mama.”

Dark Star Orchestra now heads to Rochester for their first-ever stadium show on Tuesday night followed by an appearance at Gathering Of The Vibes with JGB keyboardist Melvin Seals.
