Watch Cynthia Erivo Join Robert Glasper For Wickedly Jazzy Christmas Classic In London

Last month, jazz keyboardist Robert Glasper released a holiday album, In December, featuring an array of special guests. One of those guest performers, actor/singer Cynthia Erivo, joined Glasper during a recent concert at KOKO in London to bring her contribution to the album to life.

Erivo, who currently stars in the feature film adaptation of the musical Wicked, joined Glasper and his bandmates during their concert on November 21. The collaboration recreated the album’s funky arrangement of the Christmas carol, “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.”

“I did a Christmas album on Apple Music and my friend here Cynthia Erivo sung on the album,” Glasper told the audience at KOKO. “She wasn’t trying, she was just chilling and I kind of grabbed her like, ‘Come do a verse [on a] Christmas song real quick.’”

Erivo showcased not just her wickedly talented vocal abilities but also demonstrated her skillful whistling talents over Glasper and his cohorts’ grooved-out, jazzed-up arrangement of the classic carol.
