Guitarist Cory Wong appeared as the special guest of house band Louis Cato & The Great Big Joy Machine on the Monday, February 23 episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Out today is latest installment of the The Late Show’s Commercial Breakdown video series featuring Wong performing “Blame It On The Moon” with the ensemble during his latest visit to the program.

Cory Wong originally released “Blame It On The Moon” last month on his 2026 studio album, Lost In The Wonder. The guitarist recruited an impressive array of vocalists and other guests to contribute to the LP. “Blame It On The Room” was written and recorded in collaboration with Magic City Hippies.

“I got home from Japan and sent over a demo of a song I was working on. The guys in the band said, ‘Yep, we know what to do with this,’” Wong said about creating “Blame It On The Moon” with Magic City Hippies when the track came out.

“They flipped the arrangement around and added new parts, and sent back what was the majority of what you hear in the final song. We did a few rounds of remote feedback on the writing, and I polished off the arrangement with some added horns and keyboards, and it was done! It’s always more fun to work in a room together on something creative like this, but it works really well to work on remote collaboration projects when both parties are really comfortable in their artistry and also the craft of recording/collaborating. This, to me, felt like the pinnacle of remote collaboration,” Cory Wong added.

While Louis Cato contributed to Lost In The Wonder track “From Now On,” he handles lead vocals and plays guitar on the “Blame It On The Moon” performance featured in the “Commercial Breakdown” clip. Wong unleashes a furious guitar solo within the horn-driven funk workout, which as the name of the series implies was recorded at the Ed Sullivan Theater during a commercial break.
