Minnepolis-based guitarist Cory Wong will release a new album entitled Motivational Music For The Syncopated Soul on August 2. The frequent Vulfpeck collaborator has unveiled “Limited World,” the LP’s lead single, which features Caleb Hawley.

“I’m a Minneapolis cat, so I needed it to be a fast, high-energy funk banger,” explained Wong of “Limited World,” which opens his third studio album. “Lyrically, it’s about how we blame things for limitations on our lives. In my experience, I’ve realized we get in our own way. We play mental games and think we’re in a limited world, but it’s all in our heads.”

Wong recorded the follow-up to 2018’s The Optimist over the span of a year at four different sessions held in New York City, Minneapolis and Los Angeles. Besides Hawley, additional collaborators include guitarist Charlie Hunter, vocalists Emily Browning and Antwaun Stanley and more. Cory also tapped The Late Show With Stephen Colbert band leader Jon Batiste to add to the LP. Wong will return to The Late Show to join Batiste and Stay Human during the week of July 29.
