Coldplay Revives ‘The Hardest Part’ At Wembley Stadium

Coldplay’s hometown record-breaking 10-show run is underway at Wembley Stadium in London as part of the band’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour. Last night’s third show of the run featured several special guests as well as Coldplay’s first public performance of “The Hardest Part” since 2016.

Frontman Chris Martin prefaced the unexpected setlist addition by indicating the band had not “technically rehearsed” the rarity from their third album, 2005’s X&Y. Martin and his bandmates were on the smaller stage for the acoustically offered “The Hardest Part.”

“Because today we’re sort of reminding ourselves how shitty our third album was,” Martin joked before the bust out. “It could have been great. It is a great song, though. I was just in a bad place at that time. We’re gonna try and play this song for you. If it’s terrible, please don’t put it on YouTube and just be reminded how good the other songs sounded today. And this is our attempt at our old song that we haven’t played for a long time.”

The third show of Coldplay’s 10-night run at Wembley saw the emergence of Orquesta Sinfónica conducted by Simón Bolívar and Elyanna (who performed opening sets), as well as The Pink Singers, Shone, and actor Simon Pegg. The unprecedented run continues tonight, Wednesday, August 27.
