Chris Thile Appears On ‘CBS This Morning’

Chris Thile recently took over as full-time host the long running public radio program A Prairie Home Companion. The mandolin whiz was featured on yesterday’s episode of CBS This Morning and he and pianist Brad Mehldau performed for the program’s Saturday Sessions series.

After years of guest hosting, Thile became permanent host of the Saturday evening independent radio series by taking over duties formerly held by Garrison Keillor who led A Prairie Home Companion since creating it in 1974. The 35-year-old Thile, who has performed with Nickel Creek and Punch Brothers among many other talented musicians, spoke with CBS’ Anthony Mason about taking over A Prairie Home Companion and more. Next year Thile and pianist Brad Mehldau will issue a new collaborative LP entitled Chris Thile & Brad Mehldau. It mixes originals with covers, and the pair performed several songs for Saturday Sessions. Watch their cover Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright,” via this link, as well as Elliott Smith’s “Independence Day” and their original “The Old Shade Tree” below:
