Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band released the live album Solar Live Vol 6: Little Berlin today via Bandcamp. The three-song set was captured at the Philadelphia DIY collective art/performance gallery Little Berlin on September 13, 2013.

The performance that would become Solar Live Vol 6: Little Berlin came just before the arrival of guitarist Chris Forsyth’s landmark 2013 studio album Solar Motel. While Chris had assembled The Solar Motel Band to record and tour the LP, his recent relocation from New York City — where many of the Solar Motel Band members were located — to Philadelphia urged the guitarist to find musicians to play local gigs with in the City Of Brotherly Love.

While original Solar Motel Band bassist Peter Kerlin decided to make the communte from Brooklyn, Solar Live Vol 6: Little Berlin features guitarist Paul Sukeena — then of the band Spacin’ — and drummer Steven Urgo, who played with a pre-fame The War On Drugs. The quartet would do a a number of local gigs around Philly but captured their Little Berlin performance for posterity, documented by local taper Sebastian Petsu.

Solar Live Vol 6: Little Berlin’s two tracks — “Solar Motel Part I” > “Solar Motel Part II” and a cover of Television’s “Little Johnny Jewel” — were also captured on video, which Forsyth shared via his YouTube channel to coincide with the live album release.
