Cat Power released a Jim Jarmusch-directed music video for her cover of The Pogues’ “A Pair of Brown Eyes.” Cat Power, the stage name of Chan Marshall, included The Pogues tune on her 2022 Covers album.
Cat Power’s Covers arrived on January 14. The rollout included a video for her rendition of the jazz standard “I’ll Be Seeing You.” The latest Covers track to receive the video treatment is “A Pair Of Brown Eyes,” originally appearing on The Pogues’ 1985 LP Rum Sodomy & the Lash. The visual sees Chan teaming up with critically acclaimed director Jim Jarmusch who is known for collaborating with musicians in his films including Dead Man with Neil Young, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai with RZA and more.

For his first collaboration with Cat Power, Jarmusch and Marshall shot the visual for “A Pair Of Brown Eyes” at New York City’s Blonde Studios. The renowned director highlights Chan “in an airy ghostlike quality, alternating between misty angles of Marshall performing on the Mellotron,” as per a press release for the video.
“As someone who deeply loves Cat Power’s music, getting to collaborate with Chan on this video was like a dream come true,” Jarmusch said. “She’s so inspiring to me, of course as an artist, but she’s also just such an extraordinary person.”
