Carlos Varela Joins Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds In Berlin

Last night Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds continued their European Tour with a stop at Columbiahalle in Berlin, Germany. The duo was once again joined by Matthews’ friend and recent frequent collaborator Carlos Varela.

Dave & Tim started the show in Berlin with purportedly their first ever “You Might Die Trying” opener. The main set progressed with Dave Matthews Band selections such as “Dreamgirl,” “Don’t Drink The Water,” “Crush” and “If Only.” Reynolds also performed a solo instrumental classical piece by Johann Sebastian Bach (listed on the DMB website as “Mystery Bach,” fansite DMB Almanac speculates it was a bust out of “Cello Suite No. 1 in G major, BWV 1007 – 3. Courante,” last played in 1999).

Carlos Varela, who earlier in the tour sat-in with Dave & Tim in Dublin, emerged to perform a rendition of the Cuban singer-songwriter’s “Muros y Puertas.” The guest spot was followed by “Virginia In The Rain,” Tim’s solo rendition of “Manfood,” “Crash Into Me,” “Jimi Thing” and the set-closing “Grey Street.” Dave’s solo “Some Devil” opened the first encore that continued with Tim joining for “Dancing Nancies.” The pair then left the stage, returning for a “Bartender” finale.
