Legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach sadly died yesterday at the age of 94. In the mid-1990s, Bacharach added to his amazing career when he began a collaborative relationship with fellow acclaimed songwriter Elvis Costello.
The pair is probably most famous for working on, and appearing together, in the Mike Myers-movie Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, which introduced both artists to a new generation. But that wasn’t their only collaboration. Ahead of the Austin Powers II release in 1999, Bacharach and Costello appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman twice to promote other projects.

On February 25, 1997, the duo, backed by an orchestra and Paul Shaffer’s World’s Most Dangerous Band, performed their co-write “God Give Me Strength.” The song appearing on the soundtrack for the film Grace Of My Heart was nominated for a Grammy. On September 28, 1998, Bacharach and Costello returned to Letterman. This time they offered the Grammy-winning song, “I Still Have That Other Girl,” off their collaborative album, Painted From Memory.
