Watch Bruce Springsteen Sing ‘My Hometown’ With Patrons At An Irish Pub

Tonight, Bruce Springsteen will play in front of nearly 20,000 people at Dublin’s RDS Arena for the first of three shows with the E Street Band at the venue. The Boss performed before a much smaller crowd yesterday, Thursday, May 4 while exploring his Irish roots, when he stopped by a local pub.

Springsteen was drinking at The Burrow in Rathangan, Co. Kildare, the town where his ancestors lived. He led the locals in a singalong version of his 1984 song “My Hometown.” The 73-year-old musician first advised those at the pub, “Let me think how it went, I haven’t played it in a long time.” Bruce Springsteen came up with the lyrics and when he reached the lyrics he prompted those assembled to join in the a capella rendition.

“You guys, I’m firing the E Street Band and I’m hiring you,” Springsteen joked at the end of the song. Watch footage of how it went down below:

“Springsteen’s great-great-grandmother Anne Garrity emigrated from the Mount Prospect area of Rathangan during the Famine and settled in New Jersey in the United States,” reported RTE. He planned the trip to the town discreetly and only advised local organizers on Wednesday night as per the report.

Bruce Springsteen swung by The Burrow before it officially opened and also visited the community centre, the Newbridge Library and was taken to the area in nearby Mount Prospect where it’s believed his relatives lived.
