Michelle Obama made a surprise appearance with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in Barcelona, Spain on Friday. The former first lady had a tambourine in hand and sang backing vocals during “Glory Days” at Barcelona’s Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
Friday’s concert was the first of two shows in Barcelona that began the European portion of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s 2023 International Tour. The Boss and his band returned to the massive stadium on Sunday night.
After the ensemble opened Friday’s encore with “Born In The U.S.A.” and “Born To Run,” three microphones were set up towards the front of the stage. Michelle Obama emerged with Springsteen’s wife and bandmate, Patti Scialfa as well as actress Kate Capshaw to help sing “Glory Days.” Both Michelle’s husband, former U.S. president Barack Obama, and Kate’s husband, famed director Steven Spielberg, could be seen cheering their wives on from the side of the stage.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band kept the setlists for the Barcelona shows on Friday and Sunday similar to stops on the recently completed U.S. leg with two exceptions each night. Friday’s show saw The Boss trot out the title track from his 1992 album, Human Touch, for the first time since 2016 in the same spot tour debuts typically fell in America. Then, on Sunday, the concert began with “My Love Will Not Let You Down,” last played February 25, 2017 in Auckland, New Zealand. Additionally, “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)” was dropped from the setlists in Barcelona.
The tour continues with shows in Dublin on May 5, 7 and 9.
