Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band brought their 2023 tour to the Bryce Jordan Center on the campus of Penn State University in University Park, Pennsylvania on Saturday. Springsteen and company offered the tour debut of “Hungry Heart” about halfway through the set.
Bruce’s Bryce Jordan Center play marked his second concert back after postponing a trio of shows due to illness. Springsteen has announced the rescheduled dates. Check them out below:
Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band kicked off the concert at Penn State with the same opener they’ve utilized nearly all tour, “No Surrender.” The set also saw the return of “Out In The Street,” which had been absent from the setlist since March 2 in Denver.
Bruce delivered “Hungry Heart” in the 11th song spot about halfway through the main set where he’s been slotting in tour debuts. The song appears on Springsteen’s 1980 double album The River. While “Hungry Heart” was originally written for the Ramones, Bruce’s manager/producer John Landau realized the catchy ballad’s potential and convinced Bruce to keep it. “Hungry Heart” would go on to become Bruce’s first Billboard Hot 100 hit.
The tune is still a crowd favorite, as evidenced by the audience’s reaction as Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band trotted out the number for the first time since 2017. Watch Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band deliver the tour debut of “Hungry Heart” below:
