Bruce Springsteen announced Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition, arriving on October 17 via Sony Music, a week before the film starring Jeremy Allen White, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, hits theaters. The deep dive collection documenting Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 record is previewed with a previously unreleased rendition of “Born in the U.S.A.,” which was written during the Nebraska sessions.

As released, Nebraska was largely a Bruce Springsteen solo album. While Bruce convened E Street Band members for the sessions, he ultimately returned to his four-track, bedroom-recorded demos as the basis for the 1982 album.

Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition presents the long-awaited “Electric Nebraska” sessions, featuring E Street Band members drummer Max Weinberg, bassist Garry Tallent, organist Danny Federici, pianist Roy Bittan and guitarist Stevie Van Zandt.

The collection also boasts a modern-day performance video of Nebraska in its entirety Bruce Springsteen captured at New Jersey’s Count Basie Theatre with longtime collaborator Thom Zimny. Bruce Springsteen never toured around Nebraska and shared his thoughts on revisiting the songs live.

“I think in playing these songs again to be filmed, their weight impressed upon me,” Bruce said. “I’ve written a lot of other narrative records, but there’s just something about that batch of songs on Nebraska that holds some sort of magic.”

Additionally, the five-disc Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition contains solo outtakes of songs off the record including “Losin’ Kind,” “Child Bride,” “Downbound Train,” “Gun In Every Home,” “On the Prowl” and “Born in the U.S.A.”

There’s also an “Electric Nebraska” rendering of what would become the title track to Bruce Springsteen’s 1984 blockbuster album. The version saw just Springsteen, Weinberg and Tallent laying down the song in a power trio format.

“We threw out the keyboards and played basically as a three-piece,” Bruce Springsteen recalled. “It was kinda like punk rockabilly. We were trying to bring Nebraska into the electric world.”
