Watch This Bruce Springsteen ‘Very Rare E Street Band Train Wreck’
“We fucked it up! You witnessed a very rare E Street train wreck,” Steven Van Zandt tweeted about The Boss’ performance of “Two Hearts” in Philadelphia.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are known for their marathon concerts, tight performances and ability to pull out gems from The Boss’ massive repertoire on any given night. Botches are so infrequent that it stood out when the ensemble had what guitarist Steven Van Zandt described as a “very rare E Street Band train wreck” on Friday during their concert at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park.
The hiccup came as Springsteen and the E Street Band performed “Two Hearts” four songs into the night. The Boss and Van Zandt leaned into a shared mic at one point and began cracking up after they each stopped singing. Bruce recounted off the song but drummer Max Weinberg needed a few extra bars to recover.

X user Chris in Philly took to the social media platform to reach out to Little Steven about the version of the classic song from Springsteen’s 1980 album, The River. “[W]hat the heck were you guys laughing at during Two Hearts?” the fan asked.
“We fucked it up! You witnessed a very rare E Street train wreck,” Van Zandt responded. “No idea how it happened. Very unusual. Very weird. But fun!”
A “train wreck” may have overstated the brief miscue. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band went on to finish the year’s ninth “Two Hearts” without further incident. As usual, The Boss and his band tacked on the chorus of “It Takes Two” for good measure.
Be the judge of whether “Two Hearts” was indeed a “train wreck” by watching fan-shot video of the performance below with the trouble starting around the 1:30 mark:

As reported, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s second of two consecutive concerts at Citizens Bank Park saw The Boss put rumors of his retirement to rest. “We’ve been around 50 fucking years and we ain’t quitting!” The Boss told the capacity crowd. “We ain’t doing no farewell tour bullshit! Jesus Christ! No farewell tour for the E Street Band!”
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band return to the stage on September 7 at Washington D.C.’s Nationals Park. The U.S. portion of the band’s current tour ends in Asbury Park, New Jersey on September 15.
